Late in the afternoon we hiked out to the Cinder Cone. Here's a view of the volcanic cone looming in the distance.
Gaurav trudging up the side of the Cinder Cone. The cinders underfoot are loose and the climb is difficult.
Close-up of the painted dunes.
Another photo of the dunes and lava flows.
View looking north from the crater rim. In the distance is Butte Lake. Our campground is just to the left of Butte Lake.
Another view of the crater.
Gaurav walking the final part of the trail along the crater's rim, just before heading back down.

I've made it to the top! Gaurav nearly there.
First view of the Cinder Cone's crater.
We are standing on the rim of the crater here and our shadows are visible at center-right. Also, the two light colored specks in the upper-left portion of the crater are two guys climbing out of the crater.
View looking south from atop the Cinder Cone. Center-left are the painted dunes. Surrounding the dunes are the "fantastic lava beds." In the distance is Snag Lake.
