On Saturday we drove to east side of the island. After driving the "saddle road" across the island, we arrived on the lush east coast at Hilo. A short drive north of Hilo is Akaka Falls State Park.
Akaka Falls plunges 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge.
Cameron and Katrina, friends of Ern's who live in Seaside, happened to be on the Big Island too. They hung out with us a few times, including our day spent in and around Hilo.
