We spent most of Sunday at Kehena Beach.  The trade winds were almost non-existent during the weekend. Consequently, instead of cloudy and rainy weather that is common on the east side of the island, we had beautiful sunny weather.

Kehena Beach is a beautiful black sand beach.

Kehena Beach, and most of this part of the island (a district called Puna), is mostly devoid of tourists.  Sunday is the day when the locals gather at this beach.  When we first arrived in the morning, there were only a few people, including a few nudists doing yoga poses.

I wasn't nude, at least not when these pics were taken :)

An absolutely perfect day on the beach.

We retreated to a shady spot on the beach late in the morning.

We left the beach around midday and drove up to Pahao for lunch.  When we returned in the afternoon, the beach was packed. Unfortunately, I got only this one poor quality photo during the afternoon.  We spent allot of time in the water.
